Street Hockey

At Diablo View Middle School, the hockey unit is an engaging and dynamic part of the physical education curriculum, designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of hockey. Emphasizing skill development and safety, the lessons focus on basic stick handling techniques, teaching students how to control, pass, and shoot the puck with precision and confidence. To ensure a safe learning environment, modified rules are implemented, particularly around stick handling, to prevent accidents and encourage fair play. Students are grouped into small teams of 5-6, fostering teamwork and collaboration. These teams then participate in short, spirited games lasting 5-6 minutes each, allowing students to apply their skills in a fun, competitive setting. This unit not only enhances students' physical abilities but also promotes sportsmanship and a love for the game of hockey.
